Apart from Luke, the customer service wasn't great, but my biggest complaint is that the Large size that we purchased doesn't seem to adequately protect the back of my son's head.

We used the fitment criteria and with the apache being a shell that is 1 size fits all.we ended up having to add 300 dollars worth of shims and pads to make the helmet almost fit. Definitely downsize from what you think it might be.

My son (10yo, 85lbs) absolutely loves this helmet. He never liked his Riddell Speed Icon our organization supplies. After getting this helmet he couldn't wait to wear it to practice. He said his old helmet was the worst thing about football, and now with this one he actually likes putting it on. He has no complaints, its lighter and feels much better according to him. He had the entire team try it out and everyone liked it.
My only concern is it seems to be overall less damage resistant than the Riddell. After one game I noticed a sizable scratch on it, not just a surface one but one that completely chipped the paint. After our last game of the season (I got the helmet by week 4 so ~6 games with this one) I gave it a good look over and you could definitely seem some battle damage. The area low along the jaw line right at the front has areas where the paint is completely gone. We also battled with some of the rubber coming off along the bottom ridge of the helmet, along the back and on one side below the ear hole. Even with these concerns, I am happy with the helmet and feel like my son is better protected. Just doubt this'll last nearly as long as the Riddell ones. I intend to send this back bi-yearly to recondition, hoping that process cleans up the damage a bit.

Addressing your concern regarding the paint's longevity—because our shells are made from a different material compared to the Riddell Speed Icon, and Riddell helmets in general, paint reacts and adheres differently. The Apache and Gladiator series of helmets have flexible nylon shells, which are lighter and more protective than the standard polycarbonate material that Riddell uses. The trade-off is that paint sometimes chips off easier. We're currently working on our own color-molded shells to give players the option if they believe they will need the extra durability.

My son has wore the light helmet all through youth football and middle school and won't wear any other helmet he loves the feel look and most of all the weight of the apache helmet he told me he will never wear another brand helmet as long as he plays the sport
