We had the cheap Riddell that was school-issued. The Light is night & day difference. The hits aren't "felt" like they were before. Lighter.

When considering this investment the rankings definitely sold me. I purchased the Apache lighting helmet for my 9yr old. He wanted what was the most popular. We wanted what was the most protective. Safety ranks #1 priority for us when choosing a new helmet. We purchased this helmet and after opening my son was instantly impressed by the look. But even more impressed how light it was. He could not get over how good it felt on his head. I love the spacers to make sure he had the best fit all the way around. He did need to use them in his cheek area. After wearing it, I noticed he wasn’t sweating excessively around his head like he normally does. He mentioned “Mom, it felt like it had air conditioning” so the ventilation was a plus for him as well. He also mentioned he doesn’t get headaches like he does sometimes after games. He always encourages his buddies to hold the helmet. And after just feeling the weight difference many other parents are wanting to grab for their children. I’m so pleased with the helmet we have considered making this our leagues standard helmet for next season. And another benefit is that the helmet can grow with him. He is a size small and I like that I can send it in and have it refitted once he needs a size up keeping the same shell so I won’t spend as much when he grows out of it. So many great things. The he only con is that the Apache shell looks just a little big on his head the LS2 did “look” more size appropriate. However the inside fits great. No regrets at all.

Helmet is a life saver and game changer ! My son walked away from a helmet to helmet hard hit that left the other player unfortunately with a severe concussion. Light helmets are amazing !
